This Is Rock ‘n’ Roll Radio # 873

Something special for the kids!

Both Dana and I had out of town plans this week, but no worries–Rich Firestone to the rescue! I’ve known Rich and his lovely wife Kathy for more than twenty-five years, ever since we met online on Prodigy oh, those many years ago. For the first ever TIRnRR with neither Dana nor Carl, there’s no one we could trust with deputy stewardship of our vast Friggin’ Planet empire more’n we can trust Rich Firestone. (And thanks also to the intrepid Mark Hughson for pushin’ the big red GO at the appropriate time for listeners to tune in and hear This Is Rock ‘n’ Roll Radio with Rich Firestone.)

Take it away, Reechie!

Well, THAT was different! This was my third time around as your humble guest host on This Is Rock ‘N’ Roll Radio, The biggest, most regrettable difference was that this time around, I was unable to travel to Syracuse, sit in the studio between Dana & Carl and bring the show to you live. Maybe, hopefully, next time! The good news in that was that it allowed me to record the show in my home studio, play around a bit with some sound effects and editing, and program a show that came in as close to exactly three hours as I could get. Rather than playing a bunch of featured artists and theme sets, as I’d done in the past, this time I decided to just play as many different artists and songs as I could fit in to three hours, including a set programmed by the person who makes this all possible, my wife Kathy Frodis. Even with all that, we ran out of time before I ran out of songs, so there’s plenty more to play for you the next time around. My thanks to Dana & Carl for trusting me with the keys to the car. I tried to leave some gas in the tank when I brought it home. Next week, they’ll be back in the saddle with their own “Best Three Hours Of Radio On The Whole Friggin’ Planet”, and I’ll be listening with you all, as usual. Halloween 2017 marks twenty years since the end of my radio career, and I’m grateful to them for letting me pretend to be “that guy” again for a few hours. I hope you heard something you liked, and enjoyed the ride. This show was for Debbie, Gail and Betty.

A job well-done, Reechie! A job well-done!

NEXT WEEK: Dana’s back! I’m not! Well, I’ll be there on the sidelines, but my half of the show will be taken over by someone much smarter than me: my daughter Meghan, fresh from the conclusion of her Summa cum Laude college career. It’s the long-awaited return of The Meghan & Dana Show! And this is what rock ‘n’ roll radio sounded like on a Sunday night in Syracuse this week.

This Is Rock ‘n’ Roll Radio with Dana & Carl (and occasionally Reechie) streams on Sunday nights from 9 to Midnight Eastern, exclusively at http://www.westcottradio.org/
